The main reasons for the external placement of laptop speakers may be system settings, drivers, operating systems, hardware failures, and other issues. When there is no sound, perform the following troubleshooting:
Is mute set? Check if the sound icon in the bottom right corner of the computer is in a silent state. If so, please click on it and adjust the volume before trying again. It is possible that the keyboard shortcut keys are malfunctioning. Try adjusting the volume by clicking with the mouse.
- Insert external headphones for cross testing. If the external headphones are connected and the sound is normal, restart the computer to enter the BIOS settings interface. Press F9 and F10 in sequence to restore the BIOS default settings and restart. If not, you can go to the official website of the computer brand to download the latest version of BIOS and update it.
- Check the computer’s sound output device. If the computer has an external monitor or projector, try unplugging the external device cable and trying again. Many people connect to an external monitor during online classes at home, but after disconnecting the monitor, the sound output of the system does not automatically change to a laptop and remains on the external device. As shown in the figure, check if the sound output is selected from the laptop itself, rather than an external display device. For example, in the bottom right corner of my computer system interface, click on the sound icon, and then click on the triangle in the top right corner to display two sound output devices. The first one is a projector, and the second one is a laptop. Need to check if the sound output device is correct.
If external headphones are connected, there is no sound from the headphones. First, download the sound card driver from the official website, open Device Manager, uninstall the old sound card driver, and reinstall the driver.
If it appears after updating the Windows system, you can try backing down the sound card driver:
Open the Device Manager, find the Audio sound card, right-click on Properties, select Driver from the menu, and then select “Fallback Driver”. Restart the system and check if the speaker sound has returned to normal.
If the rollback is ineffective, try a system restore. Enter System Restore in the window search bar,
- Reinstall the system. If the above troubleshooting is still ineffective, you can backup the hard disk data and restore or reinstall the Windows operating system.
- The above software issues have been resolved, and the rest are hardware faults that need to be sent to a repair point for repair.
It is recommended to send the repair to the official repair point, which is free of charge during the warranty period. If the computer is out of warranty, please inquire if it is possible not to replace the entire motherboard and if the sound card is a separate small board. If the sound card is on the motherboard, you can inquire if it can be repaired instead of replacing the motherboard, which can greatly reduce maintenance costs.
